Kalule Charles Promoting Positive Change
Born on June 20, 1996, in Nsambya Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Kakande, Kalule Charles, also known as Bagenda Kalule Charles, grew up in Kawuku - Ggaba, Makindye Division, Kampala District, Uganda, as the youngest of 10 siblings. At the age of 8, Charles tragically lost his parents in 2004, and due to financial constraints, he had to drop out of school during primary two to support his other siblings.
After facing challenges, Charles received sponsorship from the Makula Fund for Children, which allowed him to resume his education. Charles attended Kawuku Parents School for primary education and later Ggaba Mixed High School for his "O" levels, supplementing his studies at St. Janan Luwum Secondary School. He pursued further education at the International Institute of Business & Media Studies, earning certificates and diplomas in Journalism & Mass Communication. He also received specialized training in Child Protection from Plan International.
Joining Family Radio FM in 2016, Charles excelled as a program broadcaster before transitioning to a role as News Editor. Additionally, he ventured into politics, serving as Youth Publicity Secretary and later on the Village Executive Committee. His commitment and impact during these roles earned him recognition and respect within his community.
Engaging in various projects, Charles became involved with Plan International's Safer Cities for Adolescent Girls project, advocating for girls' safety and empowerment. He later joined Gals Forum International as a Project Facilitator, promoting girls' rights and safety.
Over the years, Charles has initiated and managed several projects aimed at empowering women and girls, addressing issues such as teenage pregnancies, child marriages, and gender-based violence. His efforts have earned him recognition and awards from organizations like Plan International, Gals Forum International, and Uganda Women Entrepreneurs Association Limited.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Charles is a talented drama actor and trainer, utilizing his skills to raise awareness about social issues affecting vulnerable communities.
Charles is co-founder and director of KALBAG SOLUTIONS, a construction company, and is establishing Gals Hope International Network (GHI-Network), a non-governmental organization focused on promoting gender equality and empowering marginalized groups.
Charles is also a dedicated family man, with a wife and two children. He expresses deep gratitude to those who supported him during difficult times, acknowledging their role in shaping his life, especially Ms. Simona Alladio, Mr. Paul Brown, Dr. Hugo Kamya, and all the players and life-savers of Makula Fund for Children. They brought unexpected hope into his life after the loss of his parents, providing him with the opportunity for education.
