Crispin’s Journey to Becoming a CPA
I was born on October 29th, 1995 as the middle child in a family of three boys. While my earliest memories are fuzzy, two vivid moments stand out in my childhood. The first is a cherished memory of my father carrying me proudly on his broad shoulders through our village neighborhood of Bbunga, Kawuku. It was a moment of pure joy and connection. The second memory, tinged with fear, recounts the day I narrowly escaped a house fire. Thanks to the quick actions of my relatives, whom I now consider family, I survived unscathed. These early experiences shaped my resilience and appreciation for life.
Growing up in Kawuku, Ggaba, under the shadow of extreme poverty, posed numerous challenges. Regularly being sent home from school due to unpaid fees, attending classes on an empty stomach, and lacking essential school supplies made academic success seem like an uphill battle. I faced ridicule from peers, earning the nickname "Jajja" (grandparent) among my classmates.
However, my life took a significant turn when Dr. Hugo Kamya extended a helping hand through the Makula Foundation for Children. Under their support, my academic performance improved, and I found myself embraced by a new family – the Wilson Family – who became my sponsors.
With their support, I excelled academically and my journey continued at Makerere University, where I pursued a Bachelor's degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, graduating with honors. During my time there, I interned at Kamista Uganda Limited, gaining valuable experience in agricultural practices.
Furthermore, I volunteered with Simmons University - Boston, assisting their students of social work in various projects across Uganda. This experience broadened my horizons, exposing me to diverse cultures, societal issues, and the importance of foreign aid.
Looking ahead, I aspire to pursue further studies in Certified Public Accountancy (CPA) to enhance my career prospects. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of the Makula Foundation for Children. They've been my guiding light, shaping my journey and empowering me to reach for the stars. I am eternally grateful for their generosity and belief in my potential.
