THE MAKULA FUND FOR CHILDREN
Empowering Ugandan children through education, nutrition, healthcare, and mentorship.
“Makula” means “gift”.
"Makula" is a Luganda term that translates to "gift." Uganda has over 2.5 million orphans who have lost their parents due to AIDS or extreme poverty. Government support for these children is limited, and many face difficulties with basic needs such as school fees, uniforms, and supplies. The Makula Fund for Children was established in 2004 to address these challenges. The fund provides education, mentorship, nutrition, and healthcare to vulnerable Ugandan children, giving them hope for a brighter future. This support is a gift that makes a significant difference in the lives of these children.
-
Education
We establish close partnerships with Ugandan schools to identify underprivileged children facing barriers to education. Through our committed initiatives, we've been able to sponsor and provide support to more than 250 students at various educational stages, spanning from primary schooling to university level.
-
Nutrition
The Makula Breakfast Club meets every day to provide nourishing meals to around 45 children. For many of them, this meal is their primary source of sustenance for the day. Apart from offering food, the Breakfast Club allows us to maintain personal connections and regularly check in on the children's well-being.
-
Mentorship
Through our mentorship program, we extend vital support to vulnerable orphans, offering them guidance, stability, and a sense of belonging. By connecting them with compassionate mentors, Makula students cultivate essential life skills and confidence, paving the way for a brighter future despite their challenges.
-
Healthcare
Securing access to basic healthcare stands as a cornerstone of our mission. By collaborating with local clinics and healthcare providers, we offer essential medical services to address the immediate needs of children. From routine check-ups to necessary treatments, our goal is to ensure health and well-being are safeguarded.
